Tasting Notes
VThere’s more than a black coffee color to this rum.  It’s dark – opaque even – with syrupy legs running in your glass.  Rich aromas of fresh roasted coffee beans dominate, then subtle vanilla and a hint of caramel evolve.  The taste is more like a sip of black coffee than rum.  If it were served hot in a mug, I might be fooled into thinking it was coffee.  Far more sophisticated and genuine tasting than Kahlua, and as such, it’s a better alternative for cocktails.  The medium weight body is less viscous than the appearance suggests, but is welcome change from the typical syrupy coffee liqueurs.  The black coffee taste lingers thoughout the smooth finish, especially at the tip of your tongue, while the rum produces the same slight clench in the throat that coffee does.

Anecdotes
Deco Coffee’s presentation complements the company’s tuxedo logo. A silver, black and white label rendered in the distiller’s art-deco style fits well on the the tall, clear glass bottle and rum noir.  Silver plastic foil covers an attractive black synthetic cork, like a top hat perfectly suited to the stylish motif.

Opinion
Deco Coffee Rum makes for a decent cuppa java, and an even better rum.  Use it wherever you had been using Kahlua previously and step up a more sophisticated taste.  Deco has  achieved their goal of creating a delicious coffee flavored rum, just right for adding to cocktails that require coffee flavor.  Amongst rum aficionados, Deco might give Starbucks a run for their money in the iced coffee business!
